A language is an amazing addition to your skillset whether you are fluent or only know the basics.
Most schools across the UK and Europe teach languages in schools, typically: English, French, Spanish and/or German. So, we all have some kind of proficiency in another language.
An article I found in The Telegraph (which I will link below) gave a list of benefits of bilingualism; my favourite being “you improve your English”. In marketing we are constantly conversing, presenting, and writing business plans so having the ability to confidently articulate sentences, and improve our public speaking can become a great benefit to our future marketing careers. Being bilingual can help us professionally too. If you have another language under your belt it can open doors for companies and actually save them money, so no need for external translators. Another bonus is the opportunities it holds for you. You can travel the world and confidently communicate while immersing yourself in different cultures.
One of the benefits of being a student at Coventry University is that we are constantly offered opportunities to learn languages, whether it be through the Add+Vantage scheme or with Linguae Mundi!
Duolingo is a great free application for learning languages, some of which being Chinese, Spanish, Arabic and a quick google search will tell you that these are the worlds business languages, including English of course.
If you want some wholesome bilingual content, definitely check out ‘laoshu505000’ on YouTube. The American polyglot speaks over 20 languages and makes videos shocking native speakers with his abilities!
